Requesting the City Council vote to place the amendment of the Community Preservation Act (MGL Chapter 44B, Section 3 to 7) on the November 5, 2024 ballot.

To the Honorable City Council: The Mayor respectfully requests that this Council vote to place the amendment of the Community Preservation Act (MGL Chapter 44B, Section 3 to 7) on the Nov. 5, 2024 ballot. Adoption of this amendment would increase the Community Preservation Act surcharge on real property for the purposes permitted by said Act from 1.5 % to 3.0 %, starting with taxes assessed for the fiscal year beginning on July 1, 2025. The three community preservation purposes are (1) open space, (2) historic resources and (3) community housing. Appropriate staff will be available to answer any questions you may have.
