Requesting approval to accept and expend a $23,105 grant that requires a match, from the Metropolitan Area Planning Council to the Police Department for the Metro Mayors Community Safety Initiative.

To the Honorable City Council: The Mayor respectfully requests that this Council accept and approve expending a grant of $23,105.00 from Metropolitan Area Planning Council to the Somerville Police Department, under the provisions of MGL Chapter 44, Section 53A. This grant requires $5,777.00 of matching funds from the city. The SPD Match of $5,777.00 is for overtime for the officers for Hot Spot Patrols, the Youth Academy, and dialogue/workshop time with Teen Empowerment partners. The purpose of this grant is to pay for over-time for hot spot patrols, a Youth Police Academy Officer, and Dialogue and Workshop time.
