Responding to item #25-0482, a Home Rule Petition to establish a charter for the City of Somerville.

To the Honorable City Council: The Mayor respectfully submits this response to #25-0482, a Home Rule Petition to establish a charter for the City of Somerville. Thank you for transmitting the proposed charter for the City of Somerville. I request that the City Council resubmit the proposed charter approved on March 27, 2025. Based on advice from the Collins Center, it is my understanding that an appropriate vote was not taken at the March 27 City Council meeting. I ask that the City Council review the enactment provision included in my proposal from September 10, 2024, to ensure compliance with legislative drafting requirements. My team is currently reviewing the substantive changes in the City Council's proposed charter and looks forward to providing an update to the Council soon.
