Here at home, he has been actively involved with youth soccer in the city and has been an organizer and activist for housing, health, and education. Mr. Abarca thanked the Council for this recognition and said that his work goes beyond the Latino community. He spoke of his experiences being an immigrant in different countries and said that there is a huge disconnect between Somerville\rquote s city services and immigrants for a multitude of reasons and that immigrants don\rquote t know that the city is here to help them. Councilor Wilson spoke about his interactions with Mr. Abarca and the impact that he\rquote s had on the youth soccer program in Somerville.\cf1\f1\par }

Councilor Gomez Mouakad also said that the city needs to do more to protect local businesses in the city and to understand what services are most important to the Latino community and how to provide them.\cf1\f1\par }

    Supporting the passage of H.3802 and S.1489, An Act Creating a Municipal and Public Safety Building Authority.

    David Einis requesting the adoption of an amendment to the Zoning Ordinance Map to change the zoning district of 0 White Street Place from Mid-Rise 4 (MR4) to Urban Residential (UR) and 14 White Street Place from Neighborhood Residential (NR) to UR.

Councilor Burnley said the Administration\rquote s explanation is incoherent and strange since there were no concerns earlier. He asked for a vote on severing the item from the Committee Report. The motion to sever was approved on a roll call vote of 9 in favor (McLaughlin, Scott, Strezo, Clingan, Wilson, Gomez Mouakad, Kelly, Pineda Neufeld, Ewen-Campen), 1 opposed (Burnley), 1 absent (Davis), and the item was returned to the Legislative Matters Committee.\par \pard Councilor Kelly moved to discharge item #23-1480 from the Legislative Matters Committee and refer it to the Finance Committee.
