    Supporting the Governor’s Executive Order “Facilitating Safe and Affordable Single-Stair Multifamily Residential Buildings”.

He explained that currently, two staircases are required for buildings with three or more units and that if single stair construction is allowed, it could unlock 110,000 new housing units in greater Boston alone. He noted that some fire departments have concerns about single stair construction and said that the governor\rquote s Executive Order creates a technical advisory group to analyze data and provide recommendation to the building code. He submitted, for the record, a letter from a local architect. Councilor Wheeler added that the advisory group will include several individuals with firefighting expertise.\par \pard\f1\par }

    That the Administration work with the Massachusetts Department of Transportation to ensure that extremely loud construction does not occur overnight.

City officials told him that MA-DOT didn\rquote t want to block traffic and that there was essentially nothing the city could do. He would like the city to persistently inform MA-DOT that the night-time borings are not acceptable. Councilor Link commented that this noise went on for 10 nights, resulting in measurable impacts on people. \par \pard\f1\par }

    That the Director of Planning, Preservation and Zoning consider revising the demolition review cutoff date to 1945, rather than a date relative to the present year.

    26-0835 Zoning Ordinance Referred for recommendation

    Proposing an amendment to Section 2.1.1 of the Zoning Ordinance regarding Homeless Shelters.
